John Wong received the award for Transaction Banker of the Year in Asia Pacific (Domestic Bank) 2018 at The Asian Banker Business Leadership Achievement Awards for 2018. The awards ceremony was held in conjunction with The Future of Finance Summit at the China World Hotel, Beijing, China on May 24th 2018.
With a proven track record in delivering strong and sustainable business results, Wong possesses thorough knowledge about commercial banking, especially specific to the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector, a significant one that banks cannot ignore. Bringing over 28 years of experience, he currently heads the bank’s Global Liquidity & Cash Management business, overseeing bank’s strategy across sales, product management, digital banking channel development and client implementation.

His rich experience from the Hong Kong and Chinese markets has firmed up his grasp on regional business, helping him to understand and deliver the most comprehensive suite of cash management products and services at the bank. His understanding of business philosophy is inclined towards providing solution to customer needs rather than drive product sales.
In just under three years of his stint at the bank, he was successful in augmenting revenue growth by over 1.5 times. He drove the initiative to set up a dedicated sales team for SME clients and managed to uplift the cash management sales productivity with monthly 1,600 new customers on board. His focus on SME clients has helped the bank in achieving a high operational deposit, relative to peers in the market.
His business vision to facilitate and accelerate the expansion of SME into new markets through e-commerce, has been driving the transaction business at the bank.
